Hilltribes

They kicked me out of my guesthouse this morning ! Yes, apparently they were suddenly fully booked and they failed to mention that yesterday. I found another one already but it's a bit more expensive.
I went to Ban Ya Pa, hilltribe village on the way from Tha Ton to Mae Salong. There would be three hilltribes living close together, the Akha, the Lahu and the Paduang or Longnecks. I hoped that it would be a bit authentic because I'm in a less touristic part of the north. Both I think they completely build the village for tourists. They didn't do any farming, there only income was frome selling souvenirs and from the expensive entrance fee (200 baht). Especially the longnecks looked very sad. I think they never leave the village. Hilltribe people can not travel around like other thai people. It has happened multiple times that they stopped the bus to check the passports of the thai people (hilltribes don't have passports and no right, I think).
This is something you're suposed to see when you visit the north of thailand, but I think I rather see pictures of these tribes in a book than to see them like this.



Vanmorgen ben ik uit mijn guesthouse gezet. Ja, ze zaten vandaag ineens vol en dat waren ze me gisteren vergeten te melden. Ik heb gelukkig wel snel een andere gevonden, al is die spijtig genoeg wel ietsje duurder.
Daarna ben ik naar Ban Ya Pa gegaan, een hilltribedorp op de weg van Tha Ton naar Mae Salong. Er zouden 3 verschillende stammen vlak bijeen wonen, de Akha, de Lahu en Padaung of longnecks. Ik had gehoopt dat 't toch nog iets of wat authenthiek zou zijn aangezien ik hier in een iets minder toeristisch deel van het noorden zit, maar het dorp was volgens mij volledig opgezet voor de toeristen. Ze deden er zelfs totaal niet aan landbouw, hun enige inkomsten komen van de vele stalletjes met souvenirs en de toch nogal hoge inkomprijs (5 euro). Vooral de longnecks zijn superzielig. Volgens mij verlaten zij dat dorp nooit. Hilltribes mogen zich ook niet zomaar verplaatsen naar waar ze willen, ik heb al meerdere keren meegemaakt dat politie de bus tegenhield om de paspoorten van de Thais te controleren (Hilltribes hebben geen paspoorten en dus ook geen rechten).
Dit is zogezegd iets wat je zeker moet als je in het noorden van thailand bent, maar ik zou toch liever gewoon een boek opendoen om deze stammen te zien ipv in deze omstandigheden.
